SURFING FOR TURF ON THE WORLD WIDE WEB
October/November 2002

www.scitechdaily.com   (SciTech Daily Review)

This site is another excellent source of science news.  The main page appears very busy and can be confusing.  The page is split into three main sections: Features/Background, Books/Media, and Analysis/Opinions.  But once you get the hang of reading the news summaries and finding the links to the full articles, you will find well written, easy to read accounts.  The site also has links to dozens of other sources of breaking science news and to the websites of Science/Technology publications.

news.nationalgeographic.com(National Geographic)

This site lives up to the quality we have come to expect from National Geographic.  The site provides daily news articles about the latest happenings in the world of science.  The news stories are easy to read and often will include links to audio and video clips.  In addition to the feature stories there are articles categorized into subheadings like Exploration, People, and the Environment.

www.princessauto.com   (Princess Auto)

What more can I say but, “Welcome to the Unique World of Princess Auto”.  You will never have to wait for the flyer or catalogue in the mail again.  Access to their product line is instant via their website.  You can browse their products directly online.  Their catalogues and flyers are provided for download as PDF files.  To top it all off they even support online shopping.  But then half the fun is wandering around the store.

www.mosquito.org                                      (American Mosquito Control Association)

The AMCA’s mission is to provide leadership, information and education leading to the enhancement of health and quality of life through the suppression of mosquito and other vector transmitted diseases and the reduction of annoyance levels caused by mosquitoes and other vectors and pests of public health importance.  There are sections on the mosquito life cycle, mosquito control, and the diseases that the little varmints are responsible for.  There are also numerous links to other mosquito related web sites.

micro.magnet.fsu.edu/primer/java/scienceopticsu/powersof10/index.html                 (Molecular Expressions)

Molecular Expressions has a web site that explores the world of optics and microscopy.  One section of their web site called Science, Optics & You, Interactive Java Tutorials, The Power of 10, takes a view of the Milky Way at 10 million light years from the Earth.  Then move through space towards the Earth in successive orders of magnitude until you reach a tall oak tree just outside the buildings of the National High Magnetic Field Laboratory in Tallahassee, Florida.  After that, begin to move from the actual size of a leaf into a microscopic world that reveals leaf cell walls, the cell nucleus, chromatin, DNA and finally, into the subatomic universe of electrons and protons.  Fascinating web site.

www.miniclip.com/paintball.htm                  (Stress Relief Paintball)

Feeling a little stressed at work.  Try some stress relief paintball to lighten your day.
