www.shivas.org (The Shivas Irons Society)
This society is for anyone who truly loves the game of golf. The society is named after the character (Shivas Irons) in Michael Murphy's novel Golf in the Kingdom. "The society comprises a network of individuals who share a common love for the game and an admiration for those inseparable qualities of the mind, body, and spirit exemplified by the powerful and enigmatic character for which it is named." The purpose of the society is to honor golf's history and Scottish roots. "We celebrate golf as a game of great beauty and virtue". www.turftec.com (Turftec-Web)
This site was established in 1996 and was developed so turf technicians could share information on all aspects of turf equipment management. Membership is free and the site contains many links. In Phone Directory, you can search out other people that are members of the Turf-Tec Web. They are listed alphabetically and all you have to do is click the appropriate first letter of their last name and then scroll down until you find the person you are looking for. In Discussion, you can post a topic and have others respond to it or you can reply to a topic already posted. There is a Job Board with a number of jobs all over the country. T.E.T.C.G. is a poll that highlights a different piece of equipment each month. You can answer the poll or look up results on previously featured equipment. Tech Info has subjects like Events, Equipment for Sale and Tips and Tricks which has a good tip about replacement oil filters on new equipment.

The Plant Dictionary is a database of Horticulture and Crop Science information, such as Plants, Pests and Disease, History, Biology, Technology, and About Plant Dictionary. www.ouc.bc.ca/libr/connect96/search.htm (Sink or Swim: Internet Search Tools and Techniques)
This is an excellent website, created by Ross Tyner of Okanagan University College, that I show students in the classroom. It talks briefly about the Internet and then goes into Search Engines and Search Strategies. If you have trouble searching for things on the Internet, check this site out. Ross does a super job of outlining the differences between search engines and lists some of the popular ones.
